Dev, I have been working in a corporate for more than 15 years and I make more than 1.2Lakh per month ($2000). Despite performing well, earning well as per Indian standard of living, I live paycheck to paycheck. Unable to save, unable to build my wealth, unable to become financially free.
What can I do to change this situation?
Me – Have you seen a Lion in a Jungle and a Lion in a Circus or a Zoo?
He – Yes, I have!
Me – What is the difference between both?
Lion in a Jungle:
Lion in a Jungle eats what he kills. He will work on his strategy, attacks the prey and eats it fresh. He does not rely on anyone’s mercy!
He will hunt alone most of the time, unlike wolves. He knows, he is not as fast as Cheetah (Wild Cat) but he is a strong beast who is self-aware of his strengths. He is good at building right scenario and strategy to kill. He knows the importance of staying on top of his health and hunting game else he will not live long!
Lion in a Zoo or Circus:
On the other hand, the Lion in a Zoo or a Circus lives on what he is fed.
In short, he doesn’t have to hunt. He performs tricks as asked by the masters and lives a comfortable life. He will have a work schedule and does his job well for many years, will get old and die. In short, living paycheck to paycheck!
Most people in the corporate world live like the circus lion. They forget to work on their skills and strategy to hunt for more money. If you are one of those lions and prefer Circus or Zoo life, then you must be happy. Nothing wrong with being a circus lion!
The fact is, we all are born lions. We all have abilities and skills that are lethal. We have skills that can enable us to become the king of our own jungle.
It is our traditional education system and orthodox people around us who trains us otherwise and push us to a corporate circus, where we have the ringmaster (our boss) whom we may or may not like but still must listen to him/her, in order to get our daily meal (Salary).
And then, there is the owner of the circus who owns the circus with hundreds or thousands of lions and gets rich day by day. Of course, we have lots of clowns in the circus, who are there just to entertain others. I am sure you are thinking of some while reading this 😉
The reason why most of the lions stay in the circus because they do not know the way out.
In short, they have no idea how to identify their passion, how to build multiple sources of income, how to convert passion into a business!
So, my fellow lions, let me help you with the circus break formula! 🙂
Here’s how a lion can escape the circus and become the king of the jungle. In other words, how you also can become financially free:
1) Believe that there is a big jungle out there waiting for you to rule it:
Most of the people do not even know that they are in the circus. They feel they were born to entertain others and live on daily meals. The realization is the first step to escaping into the wild and becoming free!
2) Build an escape plan:
- What things do you need to escape?
- What kind of skills do you need?
- Whom do you need to follow or partner with?
In other words:
- Identify your passion!
- Work on the plan!
- Plan on how are you going to build your financial freedom?
- What is it that you do not know?
- What can you do to be different?
3) Work on your abilities/Skills:
When you have to fight the circus guards (in short provide for your family), you better be strong.
You better be highly skilled. You better be the best at it!
In other words, work on your skills that will help others by solving their problems or challenges.
More problems you solve, more successful you will be in terms of money and career!
This is the most underestimated area. People hesitate to spend time and money on themselves to become the best in their field. No wonder they remain a Circus Lion for their whole life, only to retire with handful of money!
4) Build multiple bridges/routes:
Keep building bridges/escape routes. In other words, keep building your multiple sources of Income, so that you do not rely on only one source.
An average millionaire has at least 6-7 streams of income!
How many do you have?
5) Break free and hunt various animals:
You will be uncomfortable in a wild on your first day of escape but have the courage and start hunting!
Build an ecosystem where you can surround yourself with likeminded lions.
Keep serving more people. Keep learning new things.
If you do this, I have no doubt someday you will be able to break free from a corporate circus and build your financial freedom around your passion!
